God is the original giver of gifts. In fact, the first thing He did after forming us in creation was to bless us (Genesis 1:26-31).

Notice that blessing someone is a relational act: It shows one person’s desire to bestow favor and benefit upon another, the recipient of the blessing.

In blessing us, God gave us power to increase and be successful in every area of our lives:

  • He showered prosperity over us
  • He gave us dominion over the whole earth
  • He empowered us to subdue anything that would harm us
  • He provided a perfect environment for us
  • And He invited us into companionship & partnership with Him

With His blessings, God provided everything we could possibly imagine and desire to enjoy (see 1 Tim. 6:17).

Called up higher

God is so eager to give that we’re told He is constantly on the lookout, searching all over the world for those He can bestow blessings upon (2 Chron. 16:9).

The Godhead itself is a community of extravagant giving generated by a dynamic of unending love. This limitless love propels God to extend His gifts to us with everything He is and everything He has. This is His supreme joy.

Our ultimate destiny, as beings created in God’s image, is to become one with Him in this community of boundless love and joyful giving.

Just like children imitate their parents, we are also meant to imitate our Father God—in extravagant love and extravagant giving:

Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.” – Ephesians 5:1-2 (NLT)

INTEGRITY: A personal cornerstone

God’s Word has so much to say about giving, especially in connection with how we steward our finances. And among the many needs in the Church today is the great need for integrity.

int28Anyone who desires the true riches of God’s Kingdom has to first learn how to be a good steward of the money you’ve been given here and now (see Luke 16:10-13).

I am excited to announce the release of a new book compiled by Sean Feucht and Andy Byrd called Integrity: Character of the Kingdom, where I share more on the subject of how to walk in financial integrity. The official release date is tomorrow, March 1, so be sure to get yourself a copy fresh off the press!
