💱 Currency & Money
Does Israel Accept U.S. Dollars?
Establishments in Israel do not accept U.S. dollars as a form of payment. You will need Israeli currency for cash transactions in Israel. In places that do accept physical U.S. dollars, such as hotels, using them may result in very unfavorable exchange rates or additional fees.
Which Currency Is Best to Take to Israel?
If you have a debit or credit card that does not charge international card transaction fees, then your best option is to simply pay by card throughout your trip. Credit card processors (such as Mastercard, VISA, and American Express) use their own exchange rates, but they are typically very close to the mid-market exchange rate. You can check Mastercard's exchange rates here and check VISA here.

If you want to avoid losing out to those small exchange rate margins, then the best currency to take to Israel is Israeli new shekel (ILS) symbol - ₪ , as it is the official currency and fully accepted throughout the country. Having Israeli currency ensures smooth transactions and eliminates the need for frequent currency conversions.

Testimonial

My heart awakened with a fresh desire...

I’ve often heard people say that a trip to Israel is life-changing, and what I once thought was hyperbole turned out to be a profound understatement. Touring the Holy Land with a Messianic Biblical Scholar, a gifted storyteller, as our guide was awe-inspiring. Standing where Philip’s daughters were commissioned as prophets in Caesarea, walking where Jesus walked in Jerusalem, sailing where Jesus sailed and calmed the storm on the Sea of Galilee, healing people where Jesus healed in Capernaum, and praying where Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane, stirred something deep within me. Every Biblical story came alive in full color, etched into the land and written on my soul. My heart awakened with a fresh desire to know the Scriptures more deeply and live them out more fully. God’s Word became more alive and active than ever before. Traveling throughout Israel with HIM truly was life-changing in every sense of the word.
